The trailer for Arun Roy’s upcoming film 8/12 (2022) was launched at a press conference held at the installation of revolutionaries Binoy Basu, Badal Gupta and Dinesh Gupta at BBD Bag, Kolkata, today.

Exactly 91 years ago, the revolutionary trio entered the then Secretariat Building, [now Writers' Building of Kolkata] to scare the British rulers and shot the infamous Lt Col NS Simpson dead.

The film 8/12 stars Kinjal Nanda, Arna Mukhopadhyay and Remo as Binoy, Badal and Dinesh, respectively. Based on the incident of the historic attack, the film also features Saswata Chatterjee, Kharaj Mukherjee, Shankar Debnath, Debraj Mukherjee, Anushka Chakraborty and Gulshanara Khatun in crucial roles.

“Independence was achieved with the struggle of young blood," the director said. "Most of us have forgotten about their immense sacrifice. The historic incident that took place on 8 December 1930 will be presented through our film. The trailer presents glimpses of the storyline. I hope the trailer will be liked by viewers.”

Shot in black-and-white, the trailer presents a graphic portrayal of the tortures inflicted by the British on Indians, which forced the young freedom fighters to take up arms against the oppressiors.

Producer Kan Singh Sodha said he felt immense pride while paying tribute to the freedom fighters on this day. “The three bravehearts did not think of their personal interests and happiness," he said. "They sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the clutches of the cruel British rulers. Today, I feel proud to be able to take the story to a wider audience as the producer of this film. Hopefully the audience will be able to watch the great story on the big screen in January.”
