Karkhanisanchi Waari trailer: A dysfunctional family seeks closure on this rollercoaster final journey

Directed by Mangesh Joshi, the film will be released on the SonyLIV OTT platform on 10 December.

A death in the family is always a tragic moment, but it can open up a whole can of worms and shake up the family dynamic. Mangesh Joshi's second feature captures a family going through this cataclysmic change with a layer of dark humour, satire and some very funny situational comedy thrown in. Featuring a talented ensemble cast that includes Dr Mohan Agashe, Geetanjali Kulkarni and Amey Wagh, the film will be released on the SonyLIV OTT platform on 10 December.

The death of Puru dada forces a joint family to fulfil his final wishes of having his ashes immersed in the Chandrabhaga river. This involves the fractious five (Agashe, Wagh, Kulkarni, Ajit Abhyankar and Pradeep Joshi) pile into a minivan and travel to Pandharpur.

The journey brings out the friction in their relationships, adding to the humour, frustration and quirkiness of the film. Throw in the suspense of a possible will left by Puru dada and the true nature of the journey explodes. With veterans Agashe, Joshi and Abhyankar in form, the fantastic presence of Kulkarni and Wagh adds to the potent mix.

Joshi's first film, Lathe Joshi (2018), was a very humanistic take on the journey of a lonesome man in a changing world. This one presents an additional dash of humour and satire to add to the perspective. The camaraderie of the artistes, the visual presentation, and the dialogues in the trailer promise a fascinating movie.

Talking about the film in an interview with Cinestaan.com back in January, the director said it describes the joys and struggles of a joint family. "This is a comedy about a family," he said. "It has a different type of humour. The idea of the joint family is slowly diminishing. It has diminished from cities. We have shown the last joint family in Pune, and the person because of whom they were united passes away."

Karkhanisanchi Waari is set to be streamed on SonyLIV from 10 December. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you will be logging in to watch this film.
