The inauguration ceremony of the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival will be held at the Nabanna Sabhaghar, the temporary state secretariat of West Bengal, due to the rising number of coronavirus cases across the nation.
The event, which is slated to be held from 7 to 14 January, was supposed to be held at its traditional venue, Netaji Indoor Stadium.
According to a report by the Times of India newspaper, eminent guests, including Amitabh Bachchan and Shabana Azmi, were supposed to attend the opening ceremony. However, the programme is being restructured.
Filmmaker and producer Raj Chakraborty, who is also the chairman of KIFF, said, “The CM (chief minister Mamata Banerjee), along with us, had to take a call and she decided to shift the venue. Obviously, the whole thing gets changed. We will restrict the event.”
