Liger teaser: Vijay Deverakonda unleashes inner beast as hotheaded MMA fighter

After a long wait, the first glimpse of Vijay Deverakonda's character from his pan-Indian film Liger has been revealed.

The short teaser begins with a Caucasian ring announcer introducing our 'slumdog chaiwala' hero Liger to the audience in a jarring Indian English accent. Then we are shown the protagonist's evolution from a hotheaded tea vendor to a hotheaded mixed martial arts champion.

Ronit Roy also makes a brief appearance as Liger's coach. Although it's too early to say, it seems that Liger is going to be a typical commercial potboiler.

Written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, one of Telugu cinema's most prominent commercial filmmakers, the film is an attempt by Dharma Productions to capitalize on the pan-Indian cinema phenomenon. It will be interesting to see whether he manages to strike the perfect balance and ends up appealing to the sensibilities of both Telugu and Hindi audiences.

Liger, which also stars Ananya Panday and Mike Tyson, is slated to be released in theatres on 25 August 2022 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
