After a long wait, the trailer for H Vinoth's action tour de force, Valimai (2022), has finally arrived, and Ajith steals the show.
The explosive trailer is packed with pyrotechnics and extreme stunts guaranteed to keep the audience at the edge of its seat.
The story seems to revolve around Arjun (Ajith), a supercop transferred to the city of Chennai who is trying to stop a murder spree. As he digs deeper, he realizes there is more to the case than meets the eye.
Enter the villain (Karthikeya) who is hell-bent on getting his way at any cost. When the tables are turned and Arjun is made the scapegoat for the crimes, he makes it his mission to take the gang down.
The trailer is cut well, with a focus on highlighting the high-octane action sequences that form the core of the film. There is an element of Dhoom (2004) to the film, but the sequences look far more refined. Some visuals bring to mind Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (2008), particularly the chase sequences.
The actor was injured while performing stunts for the film and the visuals seem like it was well worth the effort. Ajith looks the part and the brief glimpse of him speaking against 'police encounters' is an interesting touch considering the recent debate surrounding extrajudicial killings in the country.
Besides Karthikeya, who looks every inch a devious villain, the trailer reveals Huma Qureshi essaying the role of a member of Ajith's squad. The actress will likely have a key role to play in the story.
The trailer also has a lot going on. From a murder spree, a heist and the depiction of rampant corruption within the system, the visuals seem to point to several red herrings.
Produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on the Pongal weekend of January 2022.
