The classic romantic comedy Saajan Chale Sasural (1996) is the latest yesteryear hit to have a sequel. The follow-up will be directed by Rajiv Ruia instead of David Dhawan, who helmed the original. The film is part of a slate of upcoming projects by the banner Visica Films that was recently announced at a event in Mumbai.

The original film was headlined by Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, Satish Kaushik and Kader Khan. But the casting for the sequel hasn’t taken place yet. As per the makers, they have, so far, only bought the rights to the 1996 film from producer Mansoor Ahmed Siddiqui.

When Cinestaan.com texted Govinda, asking whether he was aware of the development, he was taken by surprise. He replied, saying, “I don’t even know who is this guy [Rajiv Ruia]. Show off [and] drama happening in few places that we are offering work to Govinda [but] he is not doing, right? (sic)”

Attempts were made to reach out to David Dhawan, but the filmmaker hasn't responded yet.

The event also saw the launch of the first poster of Saajan Chale Sasural 2. It is simply a rear shot of a young man with an acoustic guitar strapped across his back. Govinda played a talented musician in the original film.

Apart from the Saajan Chale Sasural sequel, the event also saw the announcement of other projects by the banner such as a multi-language Sarojini Naidu biopic, an experimental Hindi film titled Hide & Seek, another Hindi film Geeta Govinda and a Kannada-Hindi movie called Bhairava and Redrum.

CB Kulkarni is the managing director of Visica Films while Charan Suvarna is the director. Kulkarni is also the founder of Caru OTT. Some of the projects by Visica Films will be released directly on this digital platform.
