Ali Fazal has signed on to yet another international project with the Gerard Butler-starrer Kandahar.
The cast, which includes actor Navid Negahban, is now filming for the feature in Saudi Arabia.
The action thriller is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and features Butler as an undercover CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) operative named Tom Harris who is embedded in Afghanistan.
Accompanied by his Afghan translator, Harris has to reach an extraction point in Kandahar while making sure the elite special forces can’t catch them beforehand. It is unclear what role Fazal will be playing the film.
Waugh developed Kandahar’s screenplay with former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune and the film’s story is based on the latter's experiences at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Afghanistan.
Kandahar is produced by Thunder Road Films, which earlier made the John Wick films and Sicario (2015), G-BASE and Capstone Group.
Ali Fazal, who has appeared in the Hollywood films Furious 7 (2015) and Victoria & Abdul (2017), is awaiting the release in February of Kenneth Branagh’s Death On The Nile (2022), with Branagh as the fabled detective Hercule Poirot.
The actor also has the Indian projects Fukrey 3, Mirzapur (Season 3), Khufiya and an untitled sci-fi project with Arati Kadav lined up.
