The Netflix series Decoupled (2021), created and written by former journalist Manu Joseph, features R Madhavan as Arya Iyer and Surveen Chawla as Shruti, a couple who realize their marriage has hit a block. Keeping in mind their young daughter, they decide to dissolve their marriage but live together for her sake.

Chawla, who has previously acted in the web-series Haq Se (2018) for ALT Balaji and Netflix's Sacred Games (2019), stated that it was a pleasure to work with her co-star with whom she had a combative relationship on screen. He is a dream to work with, she added.

Recalling their first day at work, Chawla recalled, “When we were doing the test shoot and the first scene of the show, it felt like Maddy [Madhavan] and I had known each other since forever! The moment I spoke to him on the first video call we had; I found him to be really chill and easy-breezy.”

She continued, “One very important thing about him that I noticed very early on during our interactions was that as an actor he is not thinking about just himself, or just his character, he is very giving and generous. He is thinking about the show. So that process and that kind of camaraderie for a show like this, where you are playing partners, I think just worked beautifully. I couldn't have asked for a better partner to play Arya.”

Decoupled, directed by Hardik Mehta, also stars Akash Khurana, Apara Mehta, Aseem Hattangady, Atul Kumar and Sonia Rathee. The series was premiered on Netflix on 17 December.
