The poster of Barshali Chatterjee’s upcoming film Kulpi makes a strong statement about love. Starring newcomer Protyay Ghosh as the titular character and Paayel Sarkar, Kulpi seems to revolve around the bond between a little person and a young woman named Konkona.
In the poster, Konkona seems to be enjoying the attention showered on her by Kulpi. Like other couples, they seem to enjoy quiet moments together in the midst of nature.
According to the statement released by the makers of the film, Chatterjee’s film depicts the struggles of the ostracised, through the story of Kulpi, who overcomes obstacles constructed by society, with the help of a loving father, played by Rajatava Dutta, and his beloved Konkona. The antagonist of the film, Hilton Braganza, attempts to subjugate Kulpi and force him into an established order of existence deemed fit for ‘dwarfs’ and the hero’s efforts to emerge victorious over these impediments form the crux of the story, according to the statement.
“Kulpi is a romantic comedy dealing with some rather serious issues that have the potential to handicap our society,” said Chatterjee. “Protyay has done absolute justice to the character, and Paayel has aced her role as his love interest.” The director also expressed her gratitude for veteran actress Sabititri Chatterjee, Chumki Chowdhury, Rajatava Dutta and Biswanath Basu for giving their heart and soul to the characters they have portrayed.
“The film deals with a myriad of emotions and I hope people from all age groups shall have a great time watching the film and grow into more empathetic human beings," said the filmmaker.
