Actor-producer Nikhil Dwivedi is all set to make a biographical film on yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna. The film will be adapted from author Gautam Chintamani’s book on the actor, Dark Star: The Loneliness of Being Rajesh Khanna, which was published in 2014.
Dwivedi is in talks with Farah Khan to direct the movie.
Speaking about the project, he said in a statement, “Yes, I’ve acquired the rights to Gautam Chintamani’s book, Dark Star, and I’m in talks with Farah Khan to make the film. That’s all I can say for now. As and when any major development happens, I’ll be happy to share because I’m really very excited about bringing Rajesh Khanna’s story to the big screen.”
Stating that she couldn't reveal much about the subject, Khan said, “Yes, I have read Gautam’s book and it’s very fascinating. It’s definitely an exciting story. We are in a conversation over this but I cannot comment more.”
Khanna, who is hailed as one of Hindi cinema's finest actors, made his debut in Aakhri Khat in 1966. He went on to star in over 100 movies including Aradhana (1969), Do Raaste (1969), Kati Patang (1971), Haathi Mere Saathi (1971), Anand (1971), Amar Prem (1972) and Bawarchi (1972).
A statement from the makers read, “Born Jatin Khanna, and affectionately called Kaka by his industry friends, he was quite a complex personality, and unfortunately, misunderstood by many. However, those who were close to him and benefitted by his largesse, swear by his large-heartedness. This and many other facets of the actor showcased in Gautam Chintamani’s book will be brought to screen in the Nikhil Dwivedi-produced biopic, which will also be a tribute to India’s original superstar.”
