Barroz teaser: Mohanlal directs himself in this intriguing fantasy drama

Mohanlal's maiden directorial venture Barroz: Guardian Of D’Gama’s Treasure is one of the most awaited films in Malayalam. Finally, on Sunday, after a long wait, Mohanlal released an intriguing promo for the film.

The promo begins with Mohanlal in the director's chair, getting a final check on lights, sound and camera before calling for action. And the actor is none other than Mohanlal. As the camera tilts, in walks Mohanlal in the get-up of the titular character.

Director Mohanlal applauds the actor but asks for another take. And the actor Mohanlal obliges without question. Celebrated cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who is handling the camera for this film, also features in the clip.

The fantasy action 3D film, which is based on Jijo Punnoose's novel of the same name, was announced in 2019 and went on the floors in April this year.

The film, which revolves around a mythical figure named Barroz, who has been guarding the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama’s treasure for over 400 years, also stars actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran, Spanish actress Paz Vega, Rafael Amargo and child artistes Shayla McCaffrey and Lydian Nadhaswaram.

The film has been bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

On the career front, Mohanlal was seen recently in Priyadarshan's epic Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (2021) where he played the role of the historical figure Kunjali Marakkar. Apart from his directorial venture, the actor has several other projects in various stages of production.
