The Malayalam superhero flick Minnal Murali, which was released on Netflix recently, has received much acclaim. Producer Sophia Paul has confirmed that a grander sequel has been planned and will be announced soon.

In an interview with The Federal, a digital platform disseminating news, analysis and commentary, Sophia said, "It’s too early to talk about what lies ahead, but yes, we will soon announce the sequel, a bigger extravaganza. As I said, I can’t talk about what we have in mind, but it’s going to be a hell of a ride.”

Directed by Basil Joseph, Minnal Murali is the story of a neighbourhood tailor, Jaison, who gets struck by lightning and gains superpowers. The film stars Tovino Thomas as Jaison and Guru Somasundaram as his nemesis Shibu.

Talking about the cast and crew, Sophia said: “I can’t say if Shibu is there or not at this stage. My entire team, led by Basil Joseph, will be there to execute our plans. As I said, we have bigger things in mind, having been given a red-carpet reception now.  It’s the licence the audience has given us to take the franchise to the next level.”

Talking about Minnal Murali and his role, Tovino Thomas had said in a statement, “Minnal Murali is the kind of story that will engross and captivate everyone until the very end. Taking on the role of Minnal Murali has been a challenging experience for me. Basil Joseph’s vision is truly unparalleled and I can’t wait for audiences around the world to watch it.”

Minnal Murali was premiered on Netflix in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and English.
