Box office: Pushpa's Hindi version does well; Spider-Man records excellent numbers

Meanwhile, the Ayushmann Khurrana- and Vaani Kapoor-starrer Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui ended its second week poorly.

The Hindi version of Sukumar’s Telugu action film Pushpa: The Rise (2021) demonstrated a good hold on the box office in the weekdays. This suggests word-of-mouth for the film has been positive and rapid.

After passing the Monday test with flying colours by earning Rs4 crore nett, the film stayed pretty much close to that number with negligible reduction till Thursday, when it made Rs3.25 crore nett, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com. The Thursday number was almost equal to the film’s opening-day collection of Rs3.30 crore.

The first week total of the Hindi dubbed version of Pushpa now stands at Rs26.55 crore nett. This is very good for a film that does not boast of any stars popular in the non-South regions of the country.

Meanwhile, the Hollywood superhero movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released last week a day ahead of Pushpa, also recorded an excellent extended first week in India. The film's total collection in the Indian market has reached almost Rs148 crore nett in these eight days, rare for a Hollywood movie even in pre-pandemic times.

After a brilliant first weekend, the Jon Watts directorial venture maintained good numbers on the weekdays too. Its Wednesday and Thursday collections remained constant at Rs8.50 crore nett.

Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor's Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021) finished its second week with a poor total of Rs20.55 crore nett.

With Kabir Khan’s cricket drama 83 (2021) being released today, it may well be curtains for Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui which will go down as a rare Khurrana flop. The Ranveer Singh-led 83 is also likely to affect the collections of both Pushpa and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Like Pushpa, 83 is also being released in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
