A virtual tour of Nairobi, in the proximity of beasts and enemies with conspiracies being hatched in the jungles of East Africa, is what the trailer for Srijit Mukherji’s Kakababur Protyaborton (2022) promises.
As the titular sleuth, played by Prosenjit, says he believes not in god but in human intelligence, promptness and wickedness, the trailer asks who poses the greater danger — beast or human.
The trailer begins with a visual of a local being shot in a grassland. Next, Kakababu informs Anirban Chakrabarti’s character that he has received some threat and media houses have some role to play in it.
As Kakababu, Santu and Chakrabarti arrive in Nairobi in Kenya, they are informed about two boarders going missing from a modern lodge set in the jungle.
Kakababu and his companions, on the other hand, are provided a cottage in the middle of the forest where they repeatedly have close encounters with wildlife. However, the real threat emanates from a disembodied voice which pledges to feed them to the hyenas if Kakababu gets to meet a character known as 'Little Viceroy'.
As the danger intensifies, the trio gets into more trouble but refuses to give up the hunt for the mastermind of the plot against the sleuth and the disappearance of the boarders. Kakababu's parting line, “The axe forgets, but the trees remember”, suggests the mastermind is an old enemy seeking revenge.
Based on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s novel Jongoler Modhye Ek Hotel, the story seems to have a lot of thriller elements, but the visuals in the trailer do not convey those moments convincingly. Instead, it seems to focus on showing how Mukherji has incorporated the visual effects and made Prosenjit perform many stunts in a foreign land.
Kakababur Protyaborton is slated for a theatrical release on 4 February 2022. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
