When Raja Mrityunjay Singh Shikharwat's (Naseeruddin Shah) way of life is threatened, by way of unpaid back taxes, the passive and thrifty king passes his problem on to his four daughters instead. The estranged sisters Devyani (Lara Dutta), Gayatri (Soha Ali Khan), Kamini (Kritika Kamra) and Uma (Anya Singh) find themselves pitted against each other for their family wealth and father’s affection.
Backed by the king’s minion Mishraji (Raghuvir Yadav), the royal princesses undergo a series of contests to emerge the winner and take the family properly – hence the title. Mixing drama and comedy to bring forth a royal dysfunctional family, the trailer raises questions on how the siblings become alienated from one another.
However, the trailer also hints that there’s more to the king than meets the eye, as he may be hiding a great treasure after all. Will the sisters unite and save their legacy or will those who want to see the Shikharwatis fall finally succeed? The series will reveal all.
Soha Ali Khan, who makes her digital debut in the series, stated, “I have been looking forward to doing something out of the box and Kaun Banegi Shikharwati turned out to be exactly what I wanted. The script was the first thing that caught my attention and of course, the talented star cast! I am sure the families who will watch our series will be able to relate.”
Dutta, who was last seen in Lionsgate Play's Hiccups And Hookups (2021), said, “It was such a refreshing experience shooting for this series with such great co-stars who together are a mad bunch to handle. Family dramas might be common, but this dysfunctional family is unlike any you have seen before, and we can’t wait for everyone to join this crazy family on their crazy adventures only on Zee5.”
Anya Singh, who is in the recent feature Velle (2021), said it was an enriching experience shooting with the talented cast. "They have pushed me to give my best and I hope audiences enjoy my work and our bond when they see the show. The lockdown has made us realize the importance of family and this show embodies the same sentiments that no matter how angry and upset you might be with a loved one, life is too short to hold onto grudges. That’s what I want everyone to take back from this series," Singh said.
Tandav (2021) star Kritika Kamra said, “With Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, I got three sisters for life, and I couldn’t have asked for more. The shoot was a laughter riot, and I hope the chemistry between us sisters translates well onto the screen as well. While the show will make you laugh and cry, it will also make you want to reunite with your loved ones for that tight, warm hug.”
Produced by Applause Entertainment, in association with Emmay Entertainment, the series has been directed by Gauravv Chawla and Ananya Banerjee. The Zee5 show, which also stars Cyrus Sahukar and Varun Thakur, will be premiered on 7 January 2022.
