The trailer of the upcoming web-series Humble Politiciann Nograj sees Danish Sait reprising his role as the titular corrupt neta, who now seeks to become the chief minister of Karnataka. To achieve his goal, he doesn't stop short of abducting MLAs from a rival party led by a character played by Prakash Belawadi and sequestering them in his resort.
Geetanjali Kulkarni and Varun Thakur also make brief appearances in the trailer. It seems Kulkarni plays the leader who entrusts Nograj with the task of buying the legislators whom he eventually ends up abducting.
From locking MLAs in luxury resorts to horse-trading to creating a ruckus in Parliament, the trailer makes references to the sorry state of national politics and the underhand methods leaders use to win an election. There are a few funny one-liners in the trailer. Sait has completely embodied the dodgy character.
Speaking about his preparation for this role, Sait commented, “The character, Nograj, has a hysterically funny personality with optimistic ambitions. Getting into his shoes required a lot of preparation. I had to think and feel like a 'scamster', and to keep the infectious energy consistent. There are some characters that influence your personality and Nograj did that for me in a good way. Though, at times, I do wonder, what would happen to the nation if we actually have people like him (laughs).”
Praising Sait for his performance, director Saad Khan said, "The way Danish embodies Nograj and seeing him perform gave me a canvas to work with and that really helped envision everything else. As a director, comedy is not an easy genre to tackle, but Danish and I have worked together for over eight years now, and we laugh at the same things, almost always. When we work on a scene, instantly, we both know whether it works or not. For me, Danish is synonymous with humour, and nobody can ace Nograj better than him.
Co-written by Khan and Sait, the series will be streamed on Voot Select from 6 January 2022
