Sonu Sood was in the news regularly for helping beleaguered migrants in cities return to their hometowns after the first wave of COVID-19 broke out last year. This earned him the title of 'messiah'. The actor is now all set to play a messiah on screen in the upcoming action drama Fateh.
Produced by Zee Studios, Shakti Sagar Productions and Sonu Sood’s wife Sonali, the film marks the directorial debut of Abhinandan Gupta.
The story of Fateh isn’t known yet but the words on the poster, “One man’s war against India’s hidden enemy” suggest that it’s an action film with nationalistic themes.
Sharing the reason for choosing this film, Sood said in a statement, “The story piqued my interest. It is one of the most crucial subjects that need our attention. As soon as I read the script, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I am extremely excited to bring this thought-provoking story to the audience.”
Speaking about Sood’s association with the film, Shariq Patel, chief business officer, Zee Studios said, “Sonu is a fine actor and has proved himself constantly for the last decade and a half. But given what he has done over the last year has made him a true hero. I’m sure his return to the big screen as the protagonist in such a gripping story will be exciting for everyone.”
Gupta was an assistant on popular films such as Rann (2010), Bajirao Mastani (2015), OK Jaanu (2017) and the recently-released Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021).
Sood’s last appearance in a Hindi film was in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba (2018) where he played the role of the villain Durva Ranade. The actor will also be seen in a supporting role in the upcoming Akshay Kumar-starrer Prithviraj (2022).
Fateh is expected to go on the floors in early 2022.
