Filming for second season of Crackdown begins; show will return next year on Voot Select

The spy series Crackdown will return for a second season on Voot Select next year. Filming for the show starring Saqib Saleem and Shriya Pilgaonkar has begun.

The series revolves around the directorate of operations, a covert unit of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's external intelligence and espionage agency. The first season followed agents responsible for maintaining India’s security against unknown terror threats. The show also featured artistes Iqbal Khan, Waluscha DeSouza and Rajesh Tailang.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the series ended on a cliffhanger as Saqib’s Riyaz Pathan aka RP was trying to take down Major Tariq (Ankur Bhatia) of the Inter-Services Intelligence who was planning to harm India and its citizens.

Saqib, who returns as RP, said, “Shooting for Crackdown has been one of the most enjoyable experiences for me. Needless to say, I am super excited for the second season but also nervous because the pressure is immense. The audience loved Season 1 and we are trying our best to ensure that they feel the same about this season as well. We have upped the action in Season 2 and combined it with a thrilling storyline. I’m confident that the viewers will thoroughly enjoy the show.”

His co-star Pilgaonkar, who plays beautician Divya caught in the terrorist game, added, “Crackdown 1 was a fun experience as it was my first time doing action. We were all happy that viewers enjoyed Season 1. Season 2 is going to be even more thrilling backed with an engaging narrative. It’s good to be back in action mode. Working with Apoorva Lakhia and this team is always wonderful.”

Lakhia, who had made his digital debut last year, said he was happy with how viewers and critics had liked the first season. “With the second season we are making it grander with more action and thrills," he said. "I am also excited to be reunited with the cast and crew from Season 1. And with additions like Freddy Daruwala, Sonali Kulkarni and Rashmi Agdekar, the second season is slated to be top-notch. Stay tuned!”

The team of Crackdown has been shooting for the show in Mumbai, Pune and Jaisalmer. The second season is expected to be premiered on Voot Select some time next year.
