Writer-director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's next film, The Kashmir Files (2022), looks to stir the pot on the conflicted territory of debate on the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The film will be released on Republic Day 2022 and features a host of artistes from Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty to Darshan Kumaar, Chinmay Mandlekar and Pallavi Joshi.
The latest character revealed by the makers of the film features Joshi as a professor named Radhika Menon. The actress, who is married to the director, seems to be playing a radical teacher in 'one of the best universities in India' trying to radicalize her students for a 'Free Kashmir' agitation.
In the motion poster, Joshí's character is heard saying, “Kashmir has never been an integral part of India and this is a historical fact. Agar India Britain se apni independence ke liye lad sakti hai toh Kashmir kyun nahi?”
The Kashmir Files is reportedly based on video interviews with first-generation migrants from the Pandit community. It is a narrative of the pain, suffering, struggle and trauma of the Kashmiri Pandits and questions democracy, religion, politics and humanity.
Produced by Zee Studios and Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files is scheduled to be released on 26 January 2022.
