Salman Khan recently attended a promotional event for SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus RRR (2022) in Delhi where he revealed plans for a sequel to his blockbuster hit Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).

As reported by the Press Trust of India news agency, when Karan Johar, who was hosting the event, asked Khan whether there would be Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2, he answered, “Yes, but now the focus should be on RRR.”

Later, the star added, “I have a strong relationship with Rajamouli and his father [writer KV Vijayendra Prasad] as he wrote Bajrangi Bhaijaan and soon we will be working together for Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2.”

However, Kabir Khan, the director of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, played down the news. During an interview with the news channel India Today, he said, “That announcement is something that Salman did. Neither the script is written nor has the idea been formed really. There is literally nothing right now we can talk about.”

Bajrangi Bhaijaan was about a mute Pakistani girl Shahida (Harshaali Malhotra) who comes to India with her mother to pay a visit to the Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah and gets accidentally left behind while her mother returns home. She comes across the large-hearted and innocent Pawan Chaturvedi aka Bajrangi (Salman Khan), who is moved by her plight and vows to reunite the girl with her mother in Pakistan.

The film saw Siddiqui play Pakistani news reporter Chand Nawab, a character modelled on a real Pakistani reporter of the same name. Kapoor Khan played Pawan’s love interest.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan became a blockbuster hit as it went on to earn Rs315 crore nett at the India box office alone.
