Music director Meemo S Ray aka Meemo has turned producer with Kaushik Kar’s debut film Chhipkali, starring Yashpal Sharma as writer Aloke Chaturvedi. Known for his works in the films Jawker Dhan (2017) and Alinangarer Golokdhanda (2019) and the web-series Dark Web (2018), Meemo started out as a vocalist.
Now, the founder of production house Suan Silver Screen, Meemo has a clear vision when it comes to storytelling, and he feels his maiden production Chhipkali clearly fits his criteria. Speaking to Cinestaan, the artiste opened up about how he got inspired to get involved in the process of filmmaking and why stories like Chhipkali must be told to a wide audience.
What inspired you to become a producer?
Since childhood, music has been the greatest passion for me. I started taking music lessons in Indian classical vocals. Gradually when I grew up, I picked composition as my career. I found a lot more positivity and fun while composing rather than being a performer. When I started composing for films back in 2016, what proved attractive was the entire process of filmmaking. The pre-production process inspired me to be a producer.
What made you produce Chhipkali?
Chhipkali is that sort of story, which must be told to the audience. The thriller deals with social, political and law and order issues. Chhipkali is about a philosophy that cannot be ignored at all. We are bound by Karma and we behave the way we are destined to. The content presents a warning to a kind of mentality that intends to deny these basic governing rules of life. It’s a very special film. The way the plot has been designed is very unique. Basically, Chhipkali is a common story with an uncommon presentation.
What is the vision of your production house Suan Silver Screen?
We primarily want to tell stories that convey a certain message to the audience. The priority is to make content with important information and entertainment. The vision of my production house is to make quality films and discover deserving talent across the country. The way the talented newcomers work these days is incredible. I was also a newcomer in 2016. A production house gave me the platform to showcase my talent too. I always look for newcomer creative individuals because fresh brains are the source of success stories. I am always open to new ideas.
What are your expectations from Chhipkali?
The audience these days is wise and love content. They are now hooked on world cinema. Impressing the audience with mere entertainment is not an option anymore. We must incorporate certain important messages to make the film worth watching. Chhipkali is one of these kinds of films and we are quite hopeful that it will appeal to the audience.
