The Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home collected a whopping Rs108 crore nett over the four-day weekend at the Indian box office. According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film seems on course to break the first-week collection record of the Rohit Shetty action bonanza Sooryavanshi.
According to the trade website, the superhero film did exceptionally well on its opening day, Thursday, with over 40% of its business coming from South India. However, the 50% occupancy rule appears to have hampered collections in Mumbai and Pune.
The Tom Holland-led film, the 27th instalment in the colossal Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, saw its earnings decline down South after Allu Arjun's Pushpa was released on Friday. The commercial entertainer managed to register average numbers in North India, with the Hindi version of the film collecting Rs12 crore nett across the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha over the weekend.
According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna film's collections in North India were expected as the actors are not as popular in the region, but its run might be worrying for the makers of SS Rajamouli's RRR, which is to come out in January 2022.
With the release of Kabir Khan's 83 next week, both films will see a further drop in collections. Trade reports stated that the Ranveer Singh-led sports drama, which revolves around India's maiden World Cup triumph, has already seen advance ticket sales. The makers could target a Rs10 crore opening. Slated to be released just before the Christmas weekend, the film will have an advantage over its rivals.
