The tagline for the film is 'some steal for need, some steal for greed', suggesting a heist as part of the comedy drama. The film was announced back in June 2021 with the cast and crew shooting for 20 days in Lonavala near Pune.

In his statement, Ghai said, "It's great if one can reach out to viewers across the world who have exposure to great content. 36 Farmhouse is sure to echo with the sentiments of the Indian diaspora worldwide because it has family issues today at its core and it also explores the dichotomy of the rich and the poor through an interesting lens.”
Parashar was seen recently in the role of Bhagat Singh in Shoojit Sircar's Sardar Udham (2021), while Barkha Singh is part of Raaj Shandilyaa's upcoming The Great Weddings Of Munnes (2022).
Speaking to the Mumbai-based tabloid daily Mid-Day, the filmmaker said, "“I am relearning to write and produce interesting content for the home screen, along with the big screen. In OTT entertainment, viewers have the power to watch, stop and forward as they like. The grammar of writing a screenplay and making a film for OTT is different from big-screen writing."
Ghai's previous production to arrive in theatres was the Marathi sports drama Vijeta (2020) led by Subodh Bhave.
