Jersey song 'Mehram': Sachet-Parampara's rousing music bats for Shahid Kapoor's undying hope

If fans got a very Kabir Singh (2019) vibe from the trailer for Shahid Kapoor's Jersey (2021), the first song from the album only goes to confirm it.
Composed by Sachet-Parampara (who also delivered the hit album for Kabir Singh), the song captures the sense of a man fighting against the world for his last hope.
With lyrics by Shellee, the song has been sung by Sachet Tandon. Visually, it is linked to the transformative moment for Kapoor's aspiring cricketer. At 36, he is past the prime of his sporting career and is snubbed by the selectors. Yet, there is something in him that refuses to give up.
While he battles the world, there are a few things that continue to offer him comfort. His wife (played by Mrunal Thakur), his coach (played by Pankaj Kapur) and his son form the trio that still loves him and believes in him. This drives him to try again and again.
The song by Sachet-Parampara is a bluesy riff that takes off as the atmosphere builds. With a staccato rhythm, the song relies on the guitar riff to back up the emotion with a bare musical construction. It works with Sachet Tandon's voice reflecting the angst of Kapoor's character.
It is when the song moves into the second half that it truly enters the rock zone. Nick Benny's percussion drums trigger a wonderful electric guitar solo (Rhythm Shaw) which elevates the composition to the next level. It is a trick used by Sachet-Parampara in 'Bekhayali' earlier. Yet, with a different pace, flavour and intensity, it works for this song as well.
Jersey is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also directed the Telugu original Jersey (2019) starring Nani, and is set to be released in theatres on 31 December. Watch the song 'Mehram' below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
