GV Prakash signs up to play the lead in a political film, Rebel

The music composer-turned-actor will play the lead in Nikesh RS's maiden project as director.

On the eve of the release of his film Bachelor (2021), actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar has taken on the lead role in Rebel. Produced by KE Gnanavelraja and CV Kumar with G Dhananjayan of Studio Green, the film will also have music composed by Prakash.

The actor-composer shared the first poster to announce the 'politically aware' film on social media.

He told the Indo-Asian News Service, "When director Nikesh narrated the script, I loved it in the first sitting itself. Politically, this is one area that hasn't been spoken about. It is important that we tell certain stories to society. I think it is a very important film politically."

Rebel will be set in a college and dive into student politics as well.

Prakash has two films being released back to back this month. Bachelor, also by a first-time director, Sathish Selvakumar, is set for release tomorrow while the crime thriller Jail (2021), directed by Vasanthabalan, is scheduled for release on 10 December.

He also has the comedy Selfie and an untitled project with DV Akilan lined up for next year. Rebel is also likely to be released in theatres next year.
