Chhorii is not just another horror film, it's a film with a perspective, says Nushrratt Bharuccha

The actress shared her feelings on the film by Vishal Furia, the first in which she plays the primary role.

Nushrratt Bharuccha, who was nominated for Best Actress at the Asia Contents awards for her performance in the anthology film Ajeeb Daastaans (2021), is topping off the year with her first film as the lead, Chhorii (2021).

The actress plays a pregnant woman who retires to a village before she is due to deliver in Vishal Furia’s horror remake.

Bharuccha spoke about why she chose the project: “Chhorii is indeed one of the most important films of my career. I'm really glad that with Chhorii, I could put out a responsible message that is the need of the hour.

“It's not just any another horror film, it's a film with a perspective — one that brings to light a social evil, provoking thoughts that inspire us all to take responsibility in a manner that we move towards bringing about a change,” she continued.

The film, a remake of Furia's own Marathi film Lapachhapi (2017), addresses the problem of  female foeticide, widely prevalent in some communities.

Bharuccha said, "It was an equally daunting and enriching experience to single-handedly headline such a film. It will always remain one of the most difficult films I've done.”

The actress has a busy 2022 lined up with films like Janhit Mein Jaari, which, too, she is headlining, Ram Setu, starring Akshay Kumar, and Hurdang in the works.
