After SonyLIV’s much-appreciated Scam 1992 (2020), director Manish Gupta’s 420 IPC is the next economic crime saga to hit the small screen. But while in the former we knew the culprit from the outset, Gupta’s film does not reveal whether the protagonist, played by Vinay Pathak, is guilty.
The impressive trailer for the Zee5 original film, which was recently released, tells the story of chartered accountant (CA) Bansi Keswani (Pathak) whose client, Sandesh Bhosale, deputy director of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), is arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a Rs1,200 crore flyover scam.
Keswani, too, is arrested and in serious trouble after the CBI claims to have unearthed his role in the scam. While the public prosecutor (Ranvir Shorey) is hell-bent upon proving the CA guilty, young lawyer Birbal (Rohan Mehra) comes to his rescue.
420 IPC seems to be a riveting crime drama. The trailer keeps the audience guessing whether Keswani is guilty or has simply been framed in the larger scheme of things. The background score and some fine performances by Pathak and Shorey add to the drama.
The promo succeeds in its basic aim of exciting the viewer's interest to watch the film. The show also stars Gul Panag as Keswani’s wife and Arif Zakaria.
Manish Gupta has previously directed acclaimed projects like The Stoneman Murders (2009) and Rahasya (2015) and written the iconic Ram Gopal Varma film Sarkar (2005) and Section 375 (2019). In Section 375, too, the audience was kept guessing till the end whether the accused was guilty or had been framed.
420 IPC will be streamed on Zee5 from 17 December. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
