Pravin Tarde in and as Sarsenapati Hambirrao

The first teaser for Pravin Tarde’s Sarsenapati Hambirrao (2022), which had been released in June, gave a heroic and elaborate introduction to the character of the 17th century Maratha king Shivaji, played by Gashmeer Mahajani.

The second teaser, which is out now, finally focuses on the titular character of Hambirrao Mohite, played by Tarde himself.

The video starts with Mahajani’s voice-over explaining the importance of being brave and defeating outside forces whenever they arrive to snatch away a kingdom.

But the high point of the teaser is the dramatic and heroic entry of Hambirrao. It’s the kind of entry generally welcomed with whistles and claps in single-screen theatres.

Tarde, with a toned physique and dedicated expression, suits the role of the protagonist. He is even more impressive in the fight scenes.

Hambirrao Mohite was a general in Shivaji’s army. The teaser also gives a glimpse of the high production values of the film and the larger-than-life fight and stunt sequences, which are not often seen in Marathi cinema.

Tarde has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues for Sarsenapati Hambirrao. The previous film he directed was the acclaimed Mulshi Pattern (2018), which was recently remade in Hindi as Antim: The Final Truth (2021).
