Nehal Dutta's upcoming film Jannat is a tragic inter-faith love story

Jannat stars Subham, Sarmistha Acharjee, Subhasish Mukherjee and Supriyo Dutta.

Director Nehal Dutta has announced his next film Jannat (2022) with Subham, Sarmistha Acharjee, Subhasish Mukhopadhyay, Supriyo Dutta, Barun Chakraborty, Premjit Mukherjee and Sujata Mondal.

Jannat is a tragic inter-faith love story and the plot of the film unfolds through a trial in court, according to a statement from the makers.

In the film, Sudarshan (Subham) becomes a lawyer in Kolkata and returns to his village in north Bengal to start his profession. He and Jannat (Sarmistha Acharjee) have been in love with each other for long. But on his return, Sudarshan learns that Jannat’s father Kurban Ali has fixed her marriage with Sudarshan's friend Farhad.

While Sudarshan tries to distance himself from his friend and his beloved, Farhad rebels against society and the guardians of both Jannat and Sudarshan to unite them. He initially shelters them in his tea garden, but problems arise and Jannat and Sudarshan are forced to flee to Kolkata.

The ill-fated lovers then become victims of a police conspiracy which pushes Sudarshan to seek revenge.

The film will raise the question whether society is getting increasingly intolerant of inter-faith relationships.
