The song 'E Mon Eka' from Avijit Sen’s upcoming film Tonic by Shreya Ghoshal is a melodious composition by Jeet Gannguli. Featuring lyrics by Srijato, the song is about the pains of separation, and the Ghoshal's vocals lend a heart-wrenching and deep quality to it.

The sarangi by Sarwar Hussain Khan at the beginning of the song evokes the pain experienced by the characters in the visuals.

While the trailer offered glimpses of aged couple Jaladhar Sen (Paran Bandopadhyay) and his wife (Shantuntala Barua) revisiting their salad days of youth with the help of Tonic (Dev Adhikari), the song explores a different chapter in the storyline.

The visuals mostly see all the characters in isolation, including Jaladhar's son (Sujan Mukherjee) and his daughter-in-law (Konnenica Banerjee), experiencing grief. The visuals suggest the elderly couple is missing their children and vice versa, while Tonic shares their pain alone sometimes consoles Jaladhar’s wife while she sheds tears about having to stay away from her family.

At the same time, the grief seems to make the bond between Tonic, Jaladhar and his wife even stronger, as they get emotional about the good times they have spent together and pledge to hold on to the connection in the dark times.

The song picks up the rhythm a little late, which gives a feel of old Bengali songs to the rendition. It also soothes and highlights the catharsis experienced by the characters.

Tonic will be released in theatres on 24 December.
