Rasika Dugal, who was seen in the web-series OK Computer and Out of Love (Season 2) this year, will star in the sports drama Spike. The actress will play a volleyball coach in the series created by Nishtha Shailajan and Dhaval Shah.
The news of the Hindi series was first reported by the Hollywood trade website Deadline.com. According to its report, Dugal has spent three months in Mumbai undergoing training in volleyball.
The first shooting schedule has been completed in Himachal Pradesh and the second one is to take place in January 2022.
Spike (working title) is being produced by Imber Media; the screenplay has been written by directors Shailajan and Shah, and co-writer Pratik Thakare.
Dugal, who has been part of award-winning series such as Mirzapur and Delhi Crime, revealed the sports drama will see her in a whole new avatar.
“I love watching sports dramas,” the actress told Deadline.com. “It is a genre which keeps me on the edge of my seat even when it is formulaic, so I was thrilled to be offered a role in one. I am naturally drawn to roles that require me to learn a new skill. Volleyball is a tough game and the rigours of training for it and trying to learn the sport has been wildly exciting to me. My part in the show is also very different from the parts I have played or been offered so far.”
