Dear Father marks Paresh Rawal’s return to Gujarati cinema after 40 years. He has announced that the film will be released in theatres on 4 February 2022.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Rawal said, “Venus and I join hands to bring to you our Gujarati film Dear Father in cinemas [on] 4 Feb 2022. Feels delighted to return to Gujarati cinema after 40 years.”

To mark the occasion, Rawal shared the first poster for the film. It shows him seated, seemingly unimpressed, flanked by co-stars Chetan Dhanani and Manasi Parekh. We also see an enlarged and imposing image of Rawal sporting dark glasses in the background.

The poster adds intrigue with the words (translated), 'Accident, suicide or murder?'

Rawal has also joined Instagram and the first two posts he has shared are about the release of Dear Father.

Directed by Umang Vyas, Dear Father is an adaptation of Rawal’s successful Gujarati play of the same name.

Speaking of his return to Gujarati cinema, Rawal had said in a statement earlier this year, “The audience has been nurtured over the years due to the fantastic theatre scene in Gujarati. And [it] is ready to accept new ideas and hungry for good content.”

Producer Ratan Jain of Venus had said, “The subject of Dear Father has a rare combination of humour and emotion in equal parts and I am very happy to partner Pareshbhai on it.”

The last Gujarati film Rawal did was also the first of his career titled Naseeb Ni Balihari (1982).

Dear Father will be released alongside Hindi films Badhaai Do (2022) and Shabhaash Mithu (2022).
