Pakistani actor Fawad Khan will reunite after eight years with Sanam Saeed, his co-star in the popular series Zindagi Gulzar Hai, for Zindagi’s upcoming untitled web-series. To be directed by Asim Abbasi, the show will be streamed on Zee5. Zindagi shared the first look of the on-screen pair on Instagram today.
According to a report on Firstpost.com, an online English news portal, Khan will play a single father in the show which is a blend of supernatural fantasy and magic realism. A story of a family reunion, the series will see Khan as a charming but guilt-ridden parent who invests his all to turn into the likeness of his own father and fill the void left by him.
Sanam Saeed, on the other hand, will be seen as the central female character who is full of otherworldly secrets and takes charge of healing everyone around her to make them whole.
A significant part of the film has been reportedly shot in the stunning locations of the Hunza valley in Pakistan.
“I think Zindagi is taking bold decisions when it comes to storytelling,” said Khan. “It’s naturally evolving into a platform that encourages diversity of opinion and inclusiveness for all filmmakers and material ranging from everyday mainstream to avant-garde and noir.”
The Khoobsurat (2014) and Kapoor & Sons (2016) actor added that “there is a place for everyone in this artistic landscape”.
Sanam Saeed, who has previously worked in Abbasi’s critically acclaimed film Cake, said, “I’m thrilled to be collaborating with one of my favourite directors Asim Abbasi again, this time for Zindagi. This new project embarks on a fantastical journey with some stunning performances by a meticulously picked cast.”
She further said she could not wait for everyone to see the magic that has been created in this “beautiful limbo land”.
According to Abbasi, Zindagi has become a pioneer not only in India-Pakistan OTT collaborations, but also for encouraging artistes to push the boundaries of narrative storytelling.
Abbasi, who previously made Churails (2020) for Zindagi, said, “Under Shailja’s [referring to Shailja Kejriwal, Zee's chief creative officer for special projects] support and guidance, Zindagi has become a home for many filmmakers like me where we can see our craziest, wildest ideas come to fruition. I am feeling blessed and very hopeful that this new project will have a strong emotional resonance not only with South Asian viewers but a global audience.”
