Vishal Furia made his directorial debut in Marathi with the horror movie Lapachhapi (2017). His second film in the language is also in the same genre. Bali stars Swwapnil Joshi and will be released directly on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video on 9 December.
Going by the trailer, Bali is about a middle-class guy, the widower Shrikant (Joshi), whose son Mandar (Samarth Jadhav) is admitted in an eerie hospital after he develops a health condition. Shrikant learns from one of the doctors (Pooja Sawant) at the hospital that Mandar might be battling cancer.
But the bigger issue is that Mandar is able to see a mysterious, ghost-like woman named Elizabeth in the hospital. A senior doctor (Rohit Kokate) reveals that an earlier child patient named Bhaskar also used to hallucinate about Elizabeth. Later, Shrikant gets trapped in the mysterious hospital.
The trailer makes it clear that the makers have made good use of technical aspects like editing and background score to create horror instead of relying too much on jump-scares and loud noises.
Although Joshi is playing the lead, Jadhav gets a good amount of footage at least in the trailer. Sawant and Kokate make fleeting appearances.
Just last week, Furia released the Hindi remake of Lapachhapi titled Chhorii (2021), starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, on Amazon Prime Video.
Bali is produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartik D Nishandar’s banner Gseams. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
