After several unconfirmed reports throughout the year, the cast and crew of Gadar 2 announced the film officially on 15 October. And the movie went on the floors today in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
The sequel to Sharma's blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) will take the story of the main characters, portrayed by Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, forward.
The mahurat (inaugural) clap was given by a senior army officer. Filmmaker Sharma shared pictures of the moment, saying, “General was kind enough to grace the occasion of the muhurat of our forthcoming film Gadar 2. We are indeed very grateful, sir.”

Ameesha Patel, too, put up a picture on Instagram.
When the story of Gadar ended, Utkarsh Sharma was a kid. He has since made his own debut as the main lead in the dud Genius (2018), also directed by his father Anil Sharma. Hence, the story of Gadar 2 is expected to take a huge time leap. The film is written by Shaktimaan, who was the screenwriter for the first film as well.
Gadar completed 20 years of its release in June this year. When Gadar 2 was announced, Anil Sharma described it as the “biggest ever sequel” in Indian cinema. “After two decades the wait is finally over!" he tweeted. "Announcing the biggest ever sequel in Indian cinema. Presenting to you the motion poster of Gadar 2."
Gadar 2 is slated to be released in cinema halls next year.
