Singer-composer Shalmali Kholgade got married to her boyfriend Farhan Shaikh on 22 November. She made the announcement yesterday by sharing a few pictures and details on Instagram.
Kholgade and Shaikh, a sound engineer, were both wearing orange outfits during the ceremony, which took place in the former’s living room.
Both Hindu and Islamic rituals were performed at the intimate ceremony attended by the couple’s near and dear ones.
Speaking of her big day, Kholgade said, “22 November 2021 is the most precious day in my life thus far! The day I got married to my perfect match Farhan Shaikh. We had precisely the kind of wedding we had hoped to have. In the living room of our home with our parents and siblings, a few aunts and cousins!”
Sharing a romantic picture with Shaikh, she added, “I love that this picture sums up my favourite quality in Farhan Shaikh — compassion. We wanted a Hindu and a Muslim ritual at our wedding. Farhan’s brother-in-law Abdullah Usman was kind enough to recite a dua [prayer], conduct an English translation of the nikaah and then recite al-Fatihah."
The singer added, “My incredible father conducted the Lajja Hom and Saptapadi with an English translation. As complete as complete can be was what our wedding was. I still can’t get over how wholesome it was!!”
Kholgade has been working as a singer in Hindi and regional movies for close to a decade now. Some of her popular tracks are ‘Pareshan’ from Ishaqzaade (2012), ‘Lat Lag Gayi’ from Race 2 (2013), ‘Balam Pichkari’ from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) and ‘Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai’ from Sultan (2016). She recently turned music composer for the Marathi movie June (2021).
