A case has been filed against Tamil actress Meera Mitun for making derogatory remarks against members of Scheduled Castes. Action was taken on the basis of a complaint filed by Vanni Arasu, the leader of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, a Dalit-centric party.

As per the complaint, Meera uploaded a video clip on 7 August in which she allegedly made nasty remarks against the Scheduled Caste community. After the clip went viral, several people demanded on Twitter that she be arrested.

In the video, the actress is seen complaining about a director allegedly stealing her picture and using it for a movie's first look. She then used a derogatory term and claimed that all Scheduled Caste members were involved in criminal and illegal activities and that this was the reason that they face problems. Meera stated that all Scheduled Caste directors and figures in the Tamil film industry must be chucked out.

Meera has played minor roles in a few Tamil films. She also participated in the third season of the Tamil version of Bigg Boss.
