The first tune from the upcoming Akshay Kumar-starrer pleasantly lays the foundation for the marriage between Akshay and Vaani Kapoor’s characters.

Ranjit M Tewari’s Bell Bottom (2021) is an espionage saga dealing with hijacking and hostages. Yet the first song released from the upcoming film is a soothing Punjabi romantic ballad focused on the characters of Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor.

The song, ‘Marjawaan’, has been penned by Gurnazar, a popular Punjabi singer who makes his Hindi film debut with this track. Singer Asees Kaur accompanies Gurnazar on the number, giving voice to Kapoor’s character. The singers, who have worked together previously, complement each other on the song.

Gurnazar’s Punjabi lyrics are simple and fit the usual romantic Hindi film duet of everlasting love and not being able to live without each other.

Akshay’s character, who is a secret agent and RAW spy, professes his love for his wife in this romantic duet at what seems like a wedding. The visuals then move to show the couple abroad enjoying their time outdoors, by the sea and beach.

The song establishes the softer side of the spy and gives a glimpse into his private life before he goes off on a dangerous mission to save those taken hostage on the hijacked plane.

The music is by Gaurav Dev and Kartik Dev who keep the harmony light. The composers, working with Gurnazar, have created a pleasant melody that can be heard again and again.

Also starring Lara Dutta Bhupathi, Huma Qureshi and Adil Hussain, Bell Bottom is due to be released in theatres on 19 August. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
