200: Halla Ho trailer – When women rise against the system

The hard-hitting drama, based on a real incident, deals with the aftermath of 200 women attacking and killing a criminal in court.

In Sarthak Dasgupta’s 200: Halla Ho (2021), a criminal is attacked and murdered in a court by a mob of veiled women, many of whom were harassed and molested by the man. The police arrive to round up the women of the community and there is an investigation into what exactly occurred in an attempt to deliver justice.

Based on a true incident, the legal drama features a cast that includes veteran actor Amol Palekar, Sairat (2016) star Rinku Rajguru, Barun Sobti, Upendra Limaye, Indraneil Sengupta, Saloni Batra and Sahil Khattar. Palekar, Rajguru and Batra all play characters who attempt to understand the plight of the women and why they were motivated to take the ultimate step against their tormentor.

Khattar plays the local goon Balli Chaudhary, who, along with his men, openly harasses the so-called lower-caste women of the slum.

The digital feature also explores how the rapist uses the justice system, and the support of the police, to get away with his crimes. Eventually, the women, the real victims, are put on trial after the attack.

Co-written by Dasgupta and Gaurav Sharma, the feature will likely touch upon issues of sexual violence, caste oppression, corruption and legal loopholes.

The film is due to have its online premiere on 20 August on Zee5. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
