Shershaah song 'Ranjha': B Praak and Jasleen Royal's vocals add to Sidharth-Kiara's winter romance

The song, with lyrics by Anvita Dutt, has been composed by Jasleen Royal.

Shriram Iyengar

Parting is such sweet sorrow, wrote Shakespeare. He was echoing the sentiments of Anvita Dutt's lyrics in Shershaah's new song, 'Ranjha'. The song, which features Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra as a young couple, has been composed by Jasleen Royal.

The setting of the song seems to be right before Vikram Batra (Malhotra) departs for his posting in Jammu & Kashmir. The young man is now faced with the choice of parting from his new girlfriend, Dimple (Advani). With its mellow mood and a bittersweet sorrow underlining the cute visuals, the song is filled with emotion.

Anvita Dutt's lyrics capture these mixed feelings perfectly. The song dives into the metaphors of Heer and Sohni longing for Ranjha.

Jasleen Royal's composition gives the song a very rooted structure and style. She keeps things simple and embellishments at a minimum, focusing on the rhythm to add to the emotion of the lyrics.

The highlight of the song is her duet with B Praak. Jasleen takes the lead as the song revolves around Dimple's worries and longing. The duet is lifted by B Praak's vocals which combine effortlessly with the singer-composer's to enhance the song.

Shershaah, directed by Vishnuvardhan, is set to be released on Amazon Prime Video on 13 August.
