Adarsh H Eshwarappa’s directorial debut Shuddhi (2017) has become the first Kannada film to have its digital premiere on Neestream today.
The first-time filmmaker, who wrote and directed the feature, tells the hard-hitting story of Karlyn, an American journalist who teams up with two Indian journalists to bring to light the lenient Juvenile Justice Act and the plight of victims of juvenile delinquents. The film describes Karlyn’s mission as a “spiritual journey”.
Shuddhi, produced by Madesh Bhaskar and Nandini Madesh of Saanvi Pictures, features Lauren Spartano, Niveditha, Amrutha Karagada, Shashank Purushotham, Sidhaartha Maadhyamika, Sanchari Vijay and Veena Sundar.
The drama was released in theatres on 17 March 2017 and was one of the first films in Kannada to be shot in synch sound by sound designer Nithin Lukose. The music of Shuddhi has been composed by Jesse Clinton.
The film’s director of photography was Andrew Aiello, while the editor was Ramisetty Pavan. The feature won two Karnataka State awards for Best First Film and Best Director in 2017.
