Ra's Metanoia chronicles Gandhi’s extraordinary life, says director Ram Alladi

The film will see Srinivasarao Senapathy in the role of the Mahatma.

Director Ram Alladi’s English short film Ra’s Metanoia is based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi aka Mahatma Gandhi. It will largely feature events from The Magic Spell of a Book, a chapter from Gandhi's autobiography The Story of My Experiments with Truth. The film has been shot entirely in the US.

In a statement, the director said, “Ra’s Metanoia is a periodic drama film with fictional elements. It chronicles Gandhi’s extraordinary life with a combination of fact and fiction whilst encapsulating scientific concepts such as quantum mechanics, Einstein Rosenberg bridge and rare space elements. The film seamlessly weaves a tapestry of a richly narrated story with Gandhi’s principles and is based on true events of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's life, which starts from the first hours of his last day.”

The film will see Srinivasarao Senapathy playing the Mahatma.

The filmmaker said the idea for the project struck him three decades ago. “I started writing the plot in my mind when I saw Gandhi’s bloodstained shawl in a showcase in the Gandhi Museum, New Delhi, where I had gone for my high school educational tour. So it took me nearly 30 years to make this film and I personally feel it is such an amazing experience to have written the story and directed it,” he said.

Ram Alladi’s next project is a film in Sanskrit titled Nabhamsi.
