Deepika Padukone is set to return to Hollywood after xXx: Return Of Xander Cage (2017) with a cross-cultural romantic comedy film.
Padukone will also co-produce the project under her Ka Productions banner with STX Films, a division of Eros STX Global Corporation, and Temple Hill Productions.
The announcement was made yesterday by STX Films chairman Adam Fogelson.
Commenting on the announcement, Padukone told the website Deadline.com, “Ka Productions was founded with the aim to develop and produce purposeful content with global appeal. I’m thrilled to be partnering with STX Films and Temple Hill Productions, who share Ka’s ambition and creative vision, and look forward to bringing impactful and dynamic cross-cultural stories to the world."
Speaking about the association, Fogelson said in a statement, “There is a reason Deepika is one of the biggest global stars to come from India. She is enormously talented with an infectious personality and her profile continues to grow as an international superstar. While she has been a phenomenal success in many Eros International films, we are thrilled to be building a romantic comedy with her and our friends at Temple Hill. We believe this project gives us the opportunity to tap into the spirit, voice, characters and vibrant settings of India and New York in ways that made Crazy Rich Asians (2018) feel so authentic and fresh.”
Padukone's latest release was the critically acclaimed Chhapaak (2020), based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. She has multiple projects at various stages of production. She will be seen in Kabir Khan's 83, based on India's 1983 cricket World Cup win. In the film, she will be sharing the screen again with husband and actor Ranveer Singh.
Padukone will also feature in the Hindi remake of The Intern (2015) with Amitabh Bachchan, an untitled film by Shakun Batra, Nag Ashwin's pan-Indian multilingual untitled sci-fi thriller opposite Prabhas, and Siddharth Anand's aerial action film Fighter.
