The first poster for the documentary feature on hockey legend Dhyan Chand shows a silhouette of the face of India's greatest hockey player looming over the stadium named for him.
The docu-drama, to be directed by Neil Dasgupta, is backed by entrepreneurs Joyeeta Roy and Prateek Kumar Mishra's Signature 24 Productions.
The poster for the film, titled Major Dhyan Chand: The Inspiring Legend, also features the hockey wizard chasing a ball down railway tracks.
Dhyan Chand remains one of hockey's greatest players, winning three successive Olympic gold medals in the pre-Independence era, at Amsterdam in 1928, Los Angeles in 1932 and Berlin in 1936. His skill earned him the sobriquet 'wizard'. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.
A statement from the production house said, 'A black-and-white colour combination has been used in the poster to signify the conflicting facts and truths that we want to bring out through this docudrama. It is sad that many facts about the legend aren’t known to the youth today.'
According to the producers, Dhyan Chand used to practise controlling the ball on railway tracks. They said they wanted to bring out his dedication to the game and love for the country through the poster.
Filming of the docu-feature is expected to begin on 3 December on Dhyan Chand's 42nd death anniversary. The film is currently in pre-production in Odisha.
