Taapsee Pannu's return to the Southern film industry seems interesting. The horror-comedy Annabelle Sethupathi, which has been directed by Deepak Sundarrajan, will see the actress collaborate with Vijay Sethupathi.
The trailer starts off with visuals of Raja Veera Sethupathi (Vijay) dedicating a palace to his wife Annabelle (Pannu). Decades later, the abandoned palace is coveted by Puri Jagannadh's businessman. The only trouble is that it is haunted by long-dead courtiers.
Enter Rudra (also Pannu), a petty thief who enters the palace to steal some riches. Her resemblance to Annabelle results in the ghosts latching on to her as their way out of purgatory.
The trailer does have its moments of comedy with Yogi Babu mouthing most of the punchlines. The lines, however, land better in Tamil, which is the language of the script. The only issue is the trailer is all over the place. There are too many elements and characters, which leave the trailer feeling a bit overstuffed.
Produced by Sudhan Sundaram and G Jayaram, the film will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on 17 September.
