Surbhi Jyoti and Jassie Gill's upcoming romantic comedy Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai? is said to be based on a real-life incident that went viral on social media in 2016. A recently released trailer for the film elaborates how writer-director Ssaurabh Tyagi has incorporated the incident into the plot.
The story is set in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. Sonam Gupta (Surbhi Jyoti) is the dream girl of the city. Every lad in town is after her, and 12th class pass Sintoo (Jassie Gill) is among them. To Sintoo's surprise, Sonam reciprocates his feelings.
But just before their wedding, Sonam disappears, leaving Sintoo heartbroken. In grief, he scribbles on a 10-rupee note that Sonam Gupta is unfaithful. Soon the incident goes viral on social media and becomes a talking point on television news channels looking for sensationalism. This simple play for revenge by a heartbroken lover sets off a chain reaction that leads to a comedy of errors.
Jassie Gill looks promising in the role of a young man who is head over heels in love with a young woman who is way out of his league. Except for why Sonam Gupta dumped Sintoo, the three-minute trailer reveals almost everything about the film's plot.
Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai? also features Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala, Atul Srivastava and the late National award-winning actress Surekha Sikri in pivotal roles. The film is set to be released on Zee5 on 10 September. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this movie.
