The infamous terror attacks that took place in Mumbai in November 2008 have been depicted quite a few times on screen in the past decade or so.
Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Hindi web-series Mumbai Diaries is also about the incident, but there is a twist. The show focuses on the unsung heroes of that fateful night — the medical professionals who went through hell to treat the injured.
Mohit Raina plays a fearless senior doctor who is ready to do everything it takes to save the lives of the victims as well as culprits. The fact that his wife (Tina Desai) is trapped in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, the epicentre of the attacks, does not deter him. He is assisted by an able subordinate (Konkona Sen Sharma) and a frightened rookie (Satyajeet Dubey).
The show also features a determined and news-hungry television journalist (Shweta Dhanwanthary). The actress, interestingly, played a journalist in the acclaimed Scam 1992 (2020).
The trailer of Mumbai Diaries is intense and gripping. The scenes flashed in the three-minute clip spark excitement. The performances of Raina, Sharma and others are also great. The show also features Sandesh Kulkarni, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Prakash Belawadi and a list of other actors.
The production design and the recreation of the iconic moment where a terrorist tries to barge into police barricades also deserve a mention.
Created by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 will be streamed on 9 September on Amazon Prime Video.
