The makers of Nithiin's upcoming black comedy thriller Maestro have decided to release it directly on Disney+ Hotstar. On Monday, the streaming platform released the intriguing trailer of the film.
The Telugu film is an official remake of Sriram Raghavan's hit Andhadhun (2018) and judging by the trailer, it seems the film is going to be a faithful frame-by-frame remake. Nithiin and Nabha Natesh play the characters originally played by Ayushmann Khurrana and Radhika Apte respectively while Tamannaah Bhatia steps into Tabu's shoes.
Nithiin's character, a pianist who pretends to be blind, witnesses a murder committed by Tamannaah Bhatia's character and tries to report it to the police. But the police inspector played, by Jissu Sengupta, is also involved in the crime.
The first half of the trailer follows the same template as the Andhadhun trailer. But then the trailer starts to reveal a little bit more than it should, such as Bhatia throwing an old lady from the terrace to openly admitting to being a murderer.
The trailer of the original Hindi film had done a good job \keeping the characters' motivation shrouded in mystery. We don't know if Tabu is a cold-blooded murderer or a victim of some unfortunate circumstances. But Maestro's trailer doesn't leave any room for ambiguity around Bhatia's character. The same goes for Nithiin. In the Andhadhun trailer, the makers never explicitly revealed that Khurrana's character was pretending to be blind, but here they have openly admitted it in the trailer description.
Tamannaah looks promising in the role of a femme fatale. Nithiin also looks impressive.
Maestro has been directed by Melapaka Gandhi and produced by Nikitha Reddy and Sudhakar Reddy.
