Kangana Ranaut-starrer Thalaivii to be released theatrically on 10 September

The long-awaited biopic of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and actress J Jayalalithaa, Thalaivii (2021), directed by Vijay, will arrive in theatres on 10 September.
The feature film, starring Kangana Ranaut, will out be in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It was originally due to be released on 23 April but was postponed because of the deadly second wave in India.
While theatres are functioning in most states with 50% occupancy, the Maharashtra government is yet to announce the reopening of cinema halls in September.
Ranaut shared a new poster of the film with the latest release date on Monday. “The story of this iconic personality deserves to be witnessed only on the big screen! Pave way, for Thalaivii as she is all set to make a superstar entry into the world of cinema, yet again, a place where she has always belonged! Thalaivii IN CINEMAS near you on 10th September (sic),” she wrote on Instagram.
The new poster features Ranaut as Jayalalithaa and Arvind Swami as actor-turned-politician MG Ramachandran. They shared space as co-stars but later had a strained relationship as they both ventured into the tumultuous world of politics.
Producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri told the news agency Indo-Asian News Service, “Thalaivii has traced an extensive journey with eternal experiences at every turn. As the theatres are reopening across the nation, we are very excited that fans can enjoy the grand experience of the legend's life on the silver screen. Jayalalithaa has always belonged to the cinema and bringing her story alive on the big screen was the only way to pay homage to this great legend and revolutionary leader.”
