A month ago, the makers of Chehre shared the news about director Rumy Jafry writing a poem for the title track of the film. Composers Vishal-Shekhar had recorded the music for the piece in Prague with 107 musicians. The track has now been released and it is dominated by Amitabh Bachchan's powerful delivery of Jafry's poesy, which is underscored by eerie yet stirring melodies.
People discouraged me from making Chehre but Amitabh Bachchan was in my corner, says Rumy Jafry
The track sees a suited Bachchan sitting on a throne in an expressionistic setting. The video has been interestingly picturized and its black and white look adds to the mystery factor.
Explaining the importance of the track, Jafry said in a statement, “Films make no sense without music. If we go back to the time, films had no dialogue but did have music. Also, when it comes to a mystery thriller, your music has to be bold and precise. Considering this, we collectively decided to get on board Vishal-Shekhar because who else if not them?”
Producer Anand Pandit said, “Vishal and Shekhar have beautifully composed the title track of Chehre with 107 other musicians from Prague. Their concentration, dedication, and will to produce something soulful using the instruments is just commendable. On the other hand, it is the first time after Silsila (1981) and Agneepath (1990) that Amitabhji has recited a poem in any film. As a fan of Amitabhji and producer for Chehre, I feel blessed because not many get this privilege.”
Also starring Emraan Hashmi, Chehre will be released in theatres on 27 August. It will be the second Hindi film to arrive in cinema halls after the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country.
